1. 1886: Born – Matfield, Kent, England
2. 1905: Enters Clare College – Cambridge, England, Studies at Cambridge, leaving without a degree in 1907.
3. 1907: Returns to Weirleigh – Matfield, Kent, England, Returns to the family home.
4. 1914: Joins the Sussex Yeomanry – England, Volunteers for military service.
5. 1915: Commissioned in the Royal Welch Fusiliers – United Kingdom, Becomes a second lieutenant on 29 May.
6. 1917: Treatment at Craiglockhart – Craiglockhart, Edinburgh, Scotland, Following his refusal to return to duty, is referred to hospital and befriends Wilfred Owen.
7. 1918: Wounded on active service – France, Is wounded in July after returning to the front.
