Helen Rutter
Helen Rutter is a British children's author and former actress who lives near Sheffield. She worked as an actress for many years and in recent years has written and performed her own material, including some stand-up comedy; her husband is also a comedian. Her debut novel, The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh (2021), was inspired by her son, who has a stammer: it follows an eleven-year-old who dreams of becoming a stand-up comic. It was a Waterstones Children's Book of the Month and was shortlisted for the Costa Children's Book Award. She has since written further funny, warm-hearted novels for Scholastic, including The Funniest Boy in the World, and runs a reading and creativity subscription service for children.
