Aliette de Bodard

1982–

Aliette de Bodard was born in New York City, of French and Vietnamese descent, and has lived in France since she was a year old, growing up in Paris. A graduate of the École Polytechnique, she works as a software engineer in railway signalling alongside her writing. Her first story of genre interest appeared in 2006, and much of her fiction is set in her Xuya Universe, including The Red Scholar's Wake, a space-opera romance between a pirate fleet's sentient ship and a captured scavenger, which was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award.
